Hedge shears are built for one job: shearing soft, leafy growth into a clean, even face. The long straight blades cut a flat line across many small stems at once - something pruners and loppers cannot do efficiently.
Lightweight aluminum handles cut fatigue on long sessions, while forged-steel resharpenable blades hold an edge for heavy work, and some are partially serrated to grip springy stems. Handle lengths here run from about 10 in. up to 28 in. for extra reach. For woody branches inside the hedge, switch to loppers or a saw.
