Double-Check Backflow Assemblies

A double check valve assembly (DC, or DCVA) uses two independently-operating check valves in series to guard against both back-siphonage and back-pressure in low-hazard applications. Because it has no atmospheric vent, a double-check can be installed below grade in a valve box where local code allows, unlike a PVB or RP assembly. It is a testable assembly; Febco and Apollo are stocked here.

Reduced pressure (RPZ) vs double check: use a double check where your local code classifies the connection as low-hazard; high-hazard connections require a reduced-pressure (RP) assembly instead. Confirm the required type, size, and annual-testing rule with your water authority. See the backflow buying guide.
