How to Choose a Drainage Relief Valve

A drainage relief valve releases water from a surcharged or backed-up drain line and then closes to block backflow, debris, and pests from re-entering. It gives a buried line a controlled outlet where an open daylight discharge isn’t practical.

Match the valve to your pipe size and expected flow. Where you simply need a buried line to surface and let water out, a pop-up emitter may be the simpler choice.
