How to Choose Inline Drip Tubing

Inline (dripperline) tubing has pressure-compensating emitters built in at the factory, spaced evenly down the line. Common spacings are 6, 12, and 18 in. Closer spacing suits dense plantings and fast-draining sandy soil; wider spacing fits shrubs and heavier clay.

Pressure-compensating emitters output the same flow across long runs and slopes, so the first and last plants get equal water. Pick an emitter flow rate (commonly 0.4 to 0.9 GPH) and total it across the zone to stay within your supply, then connect runs with drip fittings.
