How to Choose a Garden Hose

Garden hoses are sized by inside diameter — 5/8 in. is the all-around standard, 3/4 in. moves more water over long runs, and 1/2 in. is lighter for small jobs. Length adds reach but drops pressure, so use the shortest hose that gets there.

Look for reinforced, kink-resistant construction and solid brass GHT couplings for daily use. Contractor-grade rubber hoses last longest under sun and heavy handling; pair one with a quality nozzle for control.
