How to Choose a Hose Bib

A hose bib (sillcock or spigot) is the threaded outdoor faucet you connect a hose to. Pick the inlet that matches your supply line — commonly 1/2 or 3/4 in. MIP or sweat — with a 3/4 in. garden-hose-thread (GHT) outlet for standard hoses.

In freezing climates choose a frost-free, anti-siphon bib with a long stem that shuts off inside the heated wall, and add a vacuum breaker where code requires backflow protection. Quarter-turn ball-valve bibs open fully with a single turn.
