How to Get More from One Spigot

Start at the wall. A hose bib (sillcock) is the outdoor faucet your hose threads onto; a frost-free model puts the shut-off valve back inside the heated wall so the line drains and won’t burst in a freeze. To run more than one hose from a single outlet, add a manifold or a Y-splitter from the bib connection kits & adapters — each port gets its own shut-off.

Automate from there. Thread a hose timer onto the bib, or onto each manifold port, so every bed runs its own schedule. Finish with the right delivery: a quality hose sized to the run and a brass nozzle or sprayer for the pattern you need. Brass outlasts plastic at the washers, swivels, and shut-offs that see the most wear.

Hose & Spigot Accessories FAQ

How do I water multiple zones from one spigot?

Add a manifold or a multi-way splitter from the bib connection kits & adapters to turn one outlet into several, each with its own shut-off. Put a hose timer on each port and every bed runs on its own schedule from the same faucet.

What’s a frost-free hose bib?

A frost-free (freeze-proof) hose bib moves the shut-off valve back inside the heated wall, so the exposed portion of the line drains after each use and won’t burst when temperatures drop. Install it pitched slightly downward toward the outside so it drains fully.

Can I automate a hose faucet?

Yes. A battery-powered hose timer threads directly onto the bib with no wiring and opens and closes on the schedule you set; single- and multi-outlet models are available. For a full in-ground system, step up to sprinkler controllers and valves.

Do hose timers need batteries or a minimum water pressure?

Most hose-end timers run on AA or 9V batteries and open against normal household water pressure. Some models list a minimum and maximum operating pressure, so check the spec before pairing one with a manifold that splits flow across several outlets.
